Art Show Poster
Print production, illustration

Overview
Lone Star College Kingwood hosts an annual poster design contest for its Visual Communications Art Show. This event showcases work from various creative majors, including graphic design, video production, motion graphics, and animation.
I was honored to be selected as the 2026 poster design winner. This meant my work served as the primary visual identity for the event and was displayed across the entire campus. In addition to the promotional posters, my design was utilized for the informational brochures and the official award certificates presented during the show.
Process
When developing this poster, I wanted to represent the full range of majors within the visual communications program. I explored several imaginative directions during the sketching phase, including a paint-filled river with an art tool ferry and a candy wonderland featuring sugar erasers and chocolate cameras. And while these were fun concepts, they didn’t quite capture the right tone for the show. So I eventually pivoted to a bird's-eye view of a creative professional’s desk.

Lineart
The initial design's color palette was supposed to use a rainbow mosaic style, but I moved away from that approach to ensure better visual hierarchy and contrast. This posed a unique challenge in practicing restraint while still maintaining a vibrant energy. Ultimately, I selected a primary palette of pink and purple, using smaller pops of color to highlight various elements and a lineless art style. By creating a "strategically messy" workspace that included both digital and physical tools, I was able to make a design that resonated with the entire department.
The final poster was well received by students and professors who felt it made them excited to partake in and visit the event!
